Rough idle and worse fuel use, will injector cleaning actually help?
-
Over the last month my Infiniti Q50 has started to shake a little when I stop at a signal, and the fuel needle seems to drop faster than it used to. It is not dramatic, but I notice it because I fill up on the same day every week and now I am filling up sooner. The car has about eighty thousand kilometres, and I live in Abu Dhabi where I do mostly short city trips in the heat. When I mentioned it at work, one colleague said it sounds like dirty injectors and told me to get them cleaned. Another said that is a favourite upsell and I should have the spark plugs checked first. I searched around and found a page about Premium fuel injector cleaning for Infiniti in Abu Dhabi, but it did not tell me how to know if my injectors are really the problem. So I want to ask people who have been through it. What symptoms point to injectors and not plugs or a dirty air filter? Is a cleaning done with a machine at the workshop, or is it just a bottle of additive poured into the tank? Does the shop test the injectors first, and is that included in the price? Also, how long does the job take, and what should it cost on an Infiniti? Does a cleaning really improve fuel use, or is that mostly a sales line? How often should it be repeated if it works? If you had the same shaky idle, please tell me what the cause was, what you paid, and what you would do differently. Easy answers help me most.
